The truth about Univa Grid Engine

Look What they have Done to Grid Engine!

If you are looking for the truth about what is going on in the Grid Engine world then you have come to the right place. Ever since the company searching for a product called Univa came into the picture last January the entire community has been in disarray.  Hopefully this website and other sites in support of the open source community will help clear this up for you and anyone else wondering what’s going on with Grid Engine

Currently there are four main forks of Grid Engine.

Son of Grid Engine – Totally open source and supported for free from the open source community

Open Grid Scheduler (OGS) - Totally open source from the last Oracle release and supported for free by the open source community.

Univa Grid Engine – Univa Grid Engine is closed source and supported for a yearly fee from Univa

Oracle Grid Engine – Commercial source and core supported by Oracle for a onetime fee for the same as the yearly fee from Univa.

What about Univa Grid Engine?

We have toned this site down considerably. The overall point of this site has been and will continue to be that there are options for Grid Engine. Some of them are free and some of them cost money. We do feel that the entry of Univa Grid Engine into the Grid Engine market place is not a positive development overall for the project or the community. We are very displeased at many of the statements on the Univa website and in the press claiming such ingenious additions when many of these are in the free versions as well. If you decide on purchasing Univa Grid Engine we hope that you make a very informed decision and ask many questions before deciding to purchase.
